Wednesday 1 September 2010: Bundle of walnut tree twigs

Wood has always been a hugely important source of fuel here in the Garfagnana - Every year at this time people are seen busily collecting and stockpiling for the winter ahead - What I love is the neatness and care that is taken over the tidying and sorting of all the different sizes of twigs and scraps left over - this was a collection of twigs that came down from the walnut tree in the garden - I tried to collect and sort them but sadly it's nothing compared to the way the locals are able to do it.
