Friars Road Tunnel and mini park

This is the Friars Road Tunnel. It?s pathway conveniently goes under the BUSY and FAST moving street and connects the Fenton Parkway Shopping area with the condos on the other (North) side.
Before the shopping center was built, this tunnel used to be used as a Geo-Caching site, and a way to get from one side of the road to the other without walking miles to get to a signal light. (It was VERY dangerous to cross without a signal light), but it was closed for many years due to abuse by the homeless.
After the shopping center was built, the various San Diego River Park and open land groups lobbied to have the tunnel restored, and on July 29, 2009 there was a grand re-opening ceremony that was covered by local city dignitaries and news stations. (I was one of the non agency civilians that attended. Flickr )
Security guards lock the gates at sundown and re-open them again in the morning for the morning walkers and joggers. This pleasant little park is between:

Arizona Leather Co.
2431 Fenton Parkway
San Diego, CA 92108-4745
and
Costco
2345 Fenton Parkway
San Diego, CA 92108

On MAP choose D. Arizona Leather Co. and click until one dot is under the plus sign. This lets you see the park and the zig-zag path leading to the tunnel.

Then click the street view picture in the pop-up window.

Click the LEFT arrow 3 times to get close to the IKEA, Lowes, McDonald?s sign.

Click the right or left directional arrow in the upper left corner to rotate the street (you will barely see the path leading up to the condos.)
