Lunch in the cesspit

I read a blog posting about Edinburgh shopping yesterday prompted by this Tweet and found the sentence: "Princes Street has fine buildings and stores along one side and the lovely Princes Street Gardens along the opposite side on the site of the town?s cess pit, Nor Loch."

Thought I'd take a stroll through the site of the cess pit just to see how it was coming along. I think after 250 years it's looking quite well established, don't you?

This is my favourite part of East Princes Street gardens, in the little part of the gardens between the railway line and Market Street. There are some beautiful rhododendrons and azaleas hidden away to the left of the path there which are splendid in the early part of the year.
