Thursday 30 September 2010: Morning rises

Edinburgh woke up at about the same speed as me this morning. But the fog cleared the grass of the Links faster than it lifted from my well socialised consciousness.

Two days with three social engagements - all (just) fitted around full days at work - prevented me from feeling too alert, despite the crisp morning air. The second and third of these gatherings both fell yesterday. First a long lunch at La Vita in Glasgow, with colleagues- one of whom was celebrating a significant birthday. Second an evening curry at the Kalpna in Edinburgh, with various Cambridge graduates connected across more than a decade by the 800 year-old university's Hillwalking club. Peter and Lottie had kindly offered me their fold out bed so that I could enjoy a drink amongst friends. Screw the pre-climbing trip diet-discipline!

This image freezes the beginning of a busy day, and I'm glad I paused to capture some of the sweet essence of it.
