Traces of Past Empires

Houses of Parliament at Sunrise

Driving past Big Ben at just after 7am this morning, we took this shot.

One could say so much but suffice it to say that the Houses of Pariiament were constructed in 1840 and largely finished by 1860. The architect was Sir Charles Barry and they replaced the original Palace of Westminster burned down in 1834, except for the 11th Century Westminster Hall.

Whether they qualify is again a moot point but given the many historic debates and votes in the History of the British Empire I think they probably do.
