Harvest Festi-fail

Yeah, that was a good idea Mrs Smith. x

We headed down to the old railway line this afternoon where Samantha had spotted a good crop of brambles a few weeks back. The intention was to harvest a bucket load for some jam making then head over to the nearby bothy for some coffee and a cake.

When we got there it turns out that a lot of the old railway line has been lifted, and the rest seems to be in the process of going. This meant there was a lot of muddy puddles around to negotiate (or not as it transpired) and it also meant a lot of the bramble bushes that lined the railway had been damaged during the process of removing the rails and sleepers. It also seemed as if the squadrons of chaffinches and the like that were flapping over our heads had done their best to munch all the fruit too. So, by the time we'd walked along to this section where the farmer was seeding his field Samantha's bright orange Halloween Haribo Trick or Treat bucket was embarrassingly empty. And then it started to rain.

By the time we'd squelched back to the car drookit, covered in mud and hands dyed purple we decided that turning up anywhere other people might see us was a bad idea, so we headed home.

Still, the brambles that were collected are currently being turned into some form of dessert for tonight. Smells delicious too...
