Tuesday 19 October 2010: Communication

The monkeys came round (briefly) this afternoon and this little chap and I spent a good 5 minutes looking at each other. He was sat on top of the cage out the back of our pondok (we put it there so we could have a catflap without the risk of monkeys in the house) looking down through the window.

Then he started playing this game where he would run a little way down the roof and poke his head round it to look at me. So I would walk down to level with where he was standing and look up at him. Then he'd run further down, I would follow etc etc. When he reached the end of the roof he would bound back up to the other end by the cage and be surprised that I was there when he poked his head back around (I can hear him running around up there on the metal 'tiles').

Anyway then he decided to just sit on the cage and observe me for a while. I was tilting my head to try and get a decent angle for a shot (i.e. avoiding the grime on the window) and he tilted his head to match.

Cue another little game.

I couldn't help smiling at him, which I don't normally do as for monkeys teeth = dominance display and it tends to get their backs up a little, but he flashed me his gnashers a couple of times and settled back into the 'running along the roof' game.

I feel all warm and fuzzy that I have communed with nature :)
