Workhouse

I was teaching at St Martins hospital today, it was once a workhouse and I think this chimney is left over from that time. When I was a young nurse I remember that a lot of the elderly patients hated being admitted there as they still had vivid memories of it's passed life.
Now much of the hospital has been closed down and the old buildings have been preserved and converted into rather smart houses.
It's still easy to imagine what life there was once like.
