Relic

Hands up who remembers using a phone box? This one in a nearby hamlet was, until a couple of years ago, beautifully kept, with flowers regularly placed inside. The only thing it apparently lacked was customers.

BT announced some time back that they would remove the box due to lack of use. It stopped taking coins, and now there is a notice (which may have been there for some time) announcing the community can buy the phone box for a nominal fee of £1, presumably for nostalgia value.

It seems a shame it's so shabby, almost now an eyesore on the edge of the village green. But there's something appealing about it's red, faded to pink paint peeling away. I do hope they choose to keep it, but I think it's outlived it's usefulness.
