One of the curiosities of living here is that we are right in the middle of a light industrial area, including the John Lewis Depository, a lift installation and repair firm, various garages, flooring and kitchen companies, painting and decorating wholesalers, etc. etc. Oh, and quite a few offices as well. After a while you not only get used to the rhythm of the noises provided by such businesses, but you also come to appreciate them in a funny way.

And in a funny way, some sunrises are best appreciated if your window faces west.
