Load shedding...

Todays newspaper brought the exciting news that from the 17th November, here in Nepal we are going to be without power for 29 hours per week, instead of the current 12 hours. Virtually all of the power here is derived from Hydro Electricity, and maintenance of one of the major turbines is scheduled to commence shortly. It gets better though...!

For the winter months we can expect up to 16 hours without power every day as the flow of water decreases....

Time for a bit of 'something & nothing' photography a la Uta Barth. If you want to know what I'm on about, here's a link to something I wrote back in May 2009...

The 'ordinary, anonymous image' is the electricity meter outside my bedroom door on the communal stairwell of where I live. This is shot with the stairwell light on, (its not very powerful), with the door to my other room open to let the light into the stairwell. (You can see the reflection in the door)....

I kind of like the juxtaposition of shapes, angles and the somewhat dilapidated feel to the shot...

Oh...and load shedding. The technical term for 'no electricity'...see here for further details.

Appropriate music here......
