Pollokshields Burgh Hall

My only outing today was a morning visit to this venue. Lighting conditions weren't ideal but I Blipped it anyway.

As a result I investigated the history of the building and found some interesting information.

It is situated in the leafy and tranquil Maxwell Park. It was designed by H.E Clifford in the Scottish Renaissance style. It opened in 1890 in Pollokshields - the first Garden Suburb in Great Britain.

It is built of rock-faced red ashlar with sculptured detailing including dormer heads, polished dressings, slated and red-tiled roofs.

Some of the markings have masonic symbolism - Lodge 772 met in the lower hall.

The Glasgow Orpheus Club was founded here on 1892. It is the longest established amateur musical society in Great Britain, and probably the world, to have performed an annual stage production, WITHOUT A SINGLE BREAK.

After one hundred and twenty years Pollokshields Burgh Hall continues to cater for business, weddings, family functions, meetings and mini conferences.

A single shot HDR to give it a bit of 'life'
