Schoemanshoek

On the way past Oudtshoorn towards the Cango Caves, lie Schoemanshoek and Schoemanspoort.

It is well known for its ostrich and sheep farming.

Lovely to see that the few Jacaranda trees are still in bloom.

Like many farming communities, it has its own church, standing in the middle of no where, or so it seems. However on a Sunday, these churches will most likely be filled to capacity with people, mostly farm laborers from the areas. A favorite meeting place to discuss the week's happenings.

Known as the Klein Karoo, the temperatures can easily rise here to early forties, but winters can be as cold. The vegetation is that of a semi desert, yet extremely fertile once it rains ....

It is a lovely part of our country, and has its own fascination and beauty.
