Ghost trees

A somber day.

I was pleased to see the university I work at flew the New Zealand flag at half mast. We're a crown entity rather than a government department (who were told to fly their flags at half mast). A mark of respect to our students and staff from the coast, those with strong coast connections and recognition that they're our geographical neighbours.

As a city and province we're aware we had a miracle on 4 September, no one died in the earthquake many experts say could have claimed anything from 100 - 1000 + lives. So many 'coasters' (the term for West Coasters) supported us. This time there was no miracle.

We mourn and our hearts go out to the families now devastated.

(This is a double exposure).
