Cradle of Scottish Christianity

Okay, it may not look like it, being a not particularly remarkable nineteenth century building, but this is Govan Old Parish Church in Glasgow, close to the River Clyde. The church is set in a roughly circular graveyard. There has been a church on this site since the 5th or 6th century AD. Inside the church building there are a number of early Christian carved stones dating back to the 9th and 10th centuries. We were there to set up for a couple of performances of A's play A Island Between Heaven And Earth, about the Iona Community. The man who started up the community, and organised the rebuilding of the ruined buildings in the 1930s, was Rev George MacLeod who was the minister in this church. The church is no longer used for Sunday services, but there are various efforts to preserve the building and its contents. L is acting in the play, in the role of Mrs Fallon, George's housekeeper and cook and housekeeper for the workers on Iona.
