MUMs

On this, St.Andrews day, I am proud to be Scottish.

I changed my image today to highlight this very good cause.

The Midwife that started these cookbooks years ago, did so to help the women of Malawi. It all came about in 2005 when the then Scottish First Minister, Jack McConnel visited Malawi. The news reports of the appalling conditions in Bottom Hospital shocked the nation.

Throughout Malawi, 807 women in every 100,000 still die in childbirth, compared with 11 in every 100,000 in the United Kingdom. However the numbers are coming down and doing so faster than anywhere else. Throughout Malawi, more than one child in every 10 still dies before the age of 5, but these numbers are coming down too.

If you read the MUMs cook book website, you can learn more about it and what it's all about.
If you know anyone that cooks and likes good food, these would make a good Christmas present for all of your friends.

(I can recomend the Strawberry shortcake, Yum factor 10/10).

Back here in White out Scotland, more digging and more snow ploughing, but less falling from the sky tonight. 12 " and counting.
