White Heather

White heather is a traditional token of good luck in Scotland. Many brides have a sprig of it in their wedding bouquet.
It is an important food source for various sheep and deer which can graze the tops of the plants when snow covers low growing vegetation.
Evidently ( as you Kiwis probably know!)it has become an invasive 'weed' in New Zealand and heather beetles have been released to stop it.
