Caught in the Act

After English class today, we made brownies. This began with a normal trip to the market for eggs and sugar, followed by the mixing and tasting the batter. Once the brownies were in the oven, N asked if she could make a cake with the leftover ingredients. "Sure!" I replied, grabbing my pen and paper to write down the recipe as we made it.

I soon found out that baking in Thailand is about as exact as cooking in Thailand. "Put in about this much flour." (She shakes in probably two cups worth from the flour bag.) "Add an egg." (She mixes it, but it doesn't look right.) "Add another egg." (She mixes it again, still unsatisfied.) "Maybe we should add some water..." (She pours in maybe half a cup.) Making the batter went on like this through all the ingredients for the cake. I was skeptical, to be honest, but it turned out delicious.
