a day in the life of Jack

Cardinal!

I've been seeing so many female cardinals around the yard lately, but the males haven't been around much. I love the bright red of the males, especially against snow or in pine trees!

I looked out the window this morning to find not just this male cardinal, but two of them, and a couple of female cardinals mixed in with the chickadees, mourning doves, juncos and nuthatches. I took this shot from inside through the window. It's only 17F/ -8C with a windchill of 1F/ -17C!!

Most of them were on the ground beneath the feeders, as it's been so windy here, the feeders are getting blown around and the seed is falling out! Of course, this makes a certain mole very happy, I've spotted a little hole that he made that brings him right out in the middle of the food. I've seen him pop up, grab some food then head back down the hole, but he is so quick, I can never get a good shot of him!

Off to the orthopedic specialist this afternoon, I really hope they can figure out what's going on and find a way to take care of it!! These new medications they have me on really do a number on me...I feel like I've been drinking (a lot!)

Have a great Wednesday everyone!
