Self Portrait
Finished my self portrait this afternoon. This is a "real" self portrait as opposed to the playful Picassoesque one I did before. This is supposed to actually look like me and I think it does. In fact it is influenced by Picasso as well. When I saw his paintings in Seattle I became aware that he sometimes left parts of his canvas bare or with the underpainting showing. That's what I did here. The gold and the red around my head, in my forehead, and in my shirt are gesso that I put on the canvas before I began to paint. It's hard to see the gold in the photo but it has a metalic sheen to it.
