Sunday 19 December 2010: Ice swacking

296/365: Felix doing what he calls 'ice swacking'. It's a serious business. You need just the right stick / club. You need to concentrate. Take aim. Be at one with the ice. Then. SWACK!!!!! This is Felix taking aim before bashing the ice into oblivion. Or attempting to anyway. It was that thick that he was only able to attack the bits with air bubbles under the surface. No idea why he calls it 'swacking' not 'whacking' - but, I've long since given up trying to figure him out. You'll also notice that his hat isn't over his ears - he refused point blank to allow that to happen and ran off giggling like a fool if we threatened to pull his hat down.

Loony.

The theme for today has been 'cold'. Woke up early (as ever) and found that the house was cold. Normally, it's kinda chilly first thing... but... it rolled onwards towards 7am and still the house didn't warm up. Or the radiators. Or the water when it came out of the tap. Now, by this point, the penny started to drop. The bloomin' boiler had decided to take Sunday off. Nice of it, huh? My advanced school of boiler fixing extends to pressing the reset button, then looking confused. Fortunately, we have a very nice plumber who, although he was on holiday (and also it's Sunday!), gave Nick some great advice via a text message... and so an electric heater was put in the boiler cupboard to see if it was frozen (apparently to get to the pipes would have involved dismantling virtually the whole house, so a heater seemed a practical option!)... then, we went out.

Now, obviously the house might have burned down or anything. But it didn't. Plus, we went for a nice walk (where Maddy got cold and tired and wailed - which is normal!)... and then decided to go out for lunch as returning to a freezing cold house wasn't massively appealing. Then went to the shops. And basically took advantage of all heat everywhere we could. When we got home 6 hours later(!)... Nick tried the boiler again.

And it clugged and chugged... and came on!!

If you could see my face, you would see some happy smiley chops. Very smiley chops. Yes, it's still cold as the house is going to take ages to heat up... and I'm sat snuggled under a rug right now.

But... I don't have to have a cold shower or wait until New Year for the boiler to be fixed. So... in your face sub-zero temperatures!!! *touches wood quickly*

PS Reading this back, I'm sure no-one will be interested at all in our boiler. But I am too happy about warmth being emitted from the radiators... that I don't care!
PPS Tomorrow's blip may just involve making you all watch paint dry.
PPPS Be warned!
PPPPS Forgot about the Sub Sunday thing again... but am struggling to make single recommendations as I like all of the journals I subscribe to for various reasons. I am rubbish at this!
