Abandoned building 2: the cabin

Many thanks for all the interest in the little window from yesterday! It's interesting what strikes a chord. I was very impressed how many people spotted the little heart!
Still keeping small, today's abandoned building is a little cabin. This is a typical pre-Famine building and is what most people lived in. This one is actually in pretty good nick as most are now roofless and being devoured by foliage. Once you start looking they are everywhere. Our peninsula had a population of over 8000 before the Famine (mid 1840s) and now has only 1000 people living here. The walls are thick and made from local stone, usually dry-walled. Windows and doors are small. This window still has a wooden frame and glass. Inside were two rooms each with a fireplace. The roof is slate but would probably originally have been thatched. There is still a part of the guttering in place. Attached to the end of the building is a byre and scattered around are the remains of little outhouses. I had to furtively climb over a dodgy gate to blip this and got very muddy. Now I've started looking, the whole places seems to be littered with buildings dying to be blipped. I'm very excited!

Apart from that, it's dull and grey and drizzling. We took down the tree and decorations. Himself asked 'can we stop having fun now?' Yup, back to normal!!
