When my dad brought this home for me I thought it was the best mirror ever.
I thought it was real gold.
I thought those were real pearls and fancy stones.
I put it in the middle drawer of my jewelry box and kept it all alone there so no other item of less value could contaminate or discolour it.
I would take it out rarely to look at it. Almost never to look 'into' it.
Although it is a mirror I thought it was too precious to actually use.

After all, my dad brought it all the way from Scotland.
He picked it out there just for me.
I was so important to him.
It was 1971.
I was 8.

It still sits alone in that same drawer.
I take it out less often.
I never look into it.
