Wednesday 12 January 2011: Winter valley
Incessant rain and heavy cloud all day did not make for good photo opps but that is often how it is here on the western seaboard. There was limited visibility towards the coast so the dog and I went squelching over the fields inland.
This view is taken looking down from the eastern slope of the Gwaun valley and shows the swollen river (Afon Gwaun) on its last lap a mile or so before it reaches the sea at Lower Fishguard. The fields on either side make good sheltered pasture but are apt to get very waterlogged in wet weather. as can be seen from the sodden ground and puddles in the gateways.
The woods are bare and dripping with only the glossy foliage of ivy to add a green note where it clings to the skeletal trees.
Try it LARGE
