The Miners Lamp

I keep this on my desk in the Parliament. It was a gift when I was culture minister and visiting the Scottish Mining Museum. On one level it is a reminder of the pride ( and the perils) of Scotland's industrial past and the courage and back breaking work of people like my own great great grandfather in Ayrshire. On another it is an admonition - a politician should always seek to provide light !
