Monday 17 January 2011: So much light

"maybe death
isn't darkness, after all,
but so much light
wrapping itself around us--"
- Mary Oliver (Owls and Other Fantasies: Poems and Essays)

Many thanks for your kind and loving thoughts and comments after our profound loss yesterday. B will be remembered and loved by so many. She was forever a teacher, an educational leader who kept the lamp of learning brilliantly illuminated for her students and colleagues alike. That light has dimmed for a moment, but we'll find her special beams wrapping around us again, urging us on.

Male Blackpoll Warbler, or Pine Warbler...I've given up trying to distinguish one fall warbler from another. He has yellow on his feet, and his brilliance dazzles against the brown and white of a New England winter. Is he the mate to my other sweetie? They are rarely together and he is quite shy, she's so tame, she's practically in my pocket most days.
