Ice Storm
I thought that perhaps some of my fellow blippers had never seen a tree during an ice storm.
What happens is that after a day or so of sub-zero temperatures, the temperature rises to just at freezing point.
The rain already almost frozen hits the sub zero branches and completely sheaths them in ice.
If the sun comes out the results are spectacular, but for today we're just having cloud, ice, rain and then more snow.
Although beautiful an ice-storm tree is exceedingly dangerous.
The weight of the ice can break the thickest of branches and in extreme cases has been known to split a tree in half as if it had been struck by lightning.
So there you have it. Today's winter guide to New Jersey......... :-))
