Wednesday 19 January 2011: LEADING EDGE
The thing I like about this Red Admiral is not only the colour, the eye on the underside of the wing but the 'LEADING EDGE ' of the wing. it has what it seems to be an Aerodynamic feathering system. For those who have flown in an aeroplane - coming into land the leading edge of the wing changes its shape in order to feather or make 'Blunt' the wind-flow - thus slowing the plane down.
I'm of the opinion this leading edge of the Red Admiral would play the same function. well someone cleverer than me can put me right -if not.
There was a lot of chasing between the three varieties at the' Budlea-Blip' tree today - They are such amazing flyers - and all the detail shown in this wing was coming into play !
