Pinky-Purple

It's been a pinky-purple sort of day
from the pink dawn to the purple dusk.
Even the pigeons I passed
that pecked in the cobbled dust,
though brighter than their common kin,
blended with the paving stones,
muting their colours to match the mood
of winter waiting for spring.
