Lyon and Clean Air

We're in Lyon, France, for a long weekend, and this was the scene from a high floor of the Musée des Beaux Arts.

The installation on the square is called "Sph'air" and consists of a multitude of white weather balloons. The occasion is simply 2011, which is the International Year of Chemistry, declared by the UN in 2008. The installation is intended to dramatize the contribution of the chemical industry to the reduction of greenhouse gases and to the improvement of the environment.

View it LARGE. The persons in green jackets moved among the spectators, explaining all this. I'm a bit skeptical of the message, but if it serves to increase environmental consciousness, so much the better (I guess).
