Wednesday 2 February 2011: When Mordor Came to Yorkshire

I know I've done a couple of dawn blips recently, but this morning's sunrise was so breathtaking that I couldn't resist another.

With the lights of Leeds twinkling at the bottom of the image, here's a view out to the Yorkshire Plain and the Selby coalfield from an elevation of 900ft. The presence of telephone wires in our view is a constant frustration, but I think the power of the sky just about draws the eye away. This shot is as it came out of the camera, and is a fair reflection of the colours that we were seeing.
