Return to the North

Murch 5. Bottled water

Murch 5. Bottled water - this water pump is outside the Murchison Museum. It's beautiful, covered in lichen and looking somewhat redundant all by itself.
One of the things I have noticed as I travel around NZ is the Kiwi propensity for museums. I come from a country where our 'human history' is quite old in comparison to NZ but you would never know this if you looked at a directory of museums. Here every small town and village has a museum. One man and his dog live in Inangahua but they have a museum, same here in Murch. I think it is fantastic that with so little history that they make the most of what they have.
The Murch museum is fascinating and of course has lots of memorabilia from the 1929 earthquake, including some peeps who were there :-) It is staffed by volunteers and even produces our town newsletter.
Go Murch museum :-)
