Wednesday 16 February 2011: To Be Or Not Two Bees, Or Three Bees, Or ...
It seems a long time since I've been at home while the sun's shining. I had to call in at lunchtime to collect my laptop and couldn't resist a look around the garden with the camera.
The Man's been having a sort out in the shed and the worst of the bee-keeping gear is going. We used to keep several hives and shared the work of managing the bees and the honey with another couple. It was fantastic to lift one of these brood combs out of the hive absolutely covered in worker bees. Several years ago the dreaded varroa hit our hives and we lost all the bees.
The time has come, with The Man retired, when we fancy starting off again, but this time with a different type of hive which is easier to manage. The honey would be great but ...
