Scrawny Old Man

The donkey man

Like most Ghanaians, Pastor Amos doesn't get his water from a tap. In much of Ghana there are communal boreholes and pumps providing good water only a short walk away from many people's homes; in the north the donkey man is a more usual supplier of water - getting it from little rivers which still have some water in them in the dry season - the water supply often controlled by dams.
This is one of Nalerigu's donkey men - you can see how it works.
(We did have a separate supply of drinking water, bought plastic sachets - but for many people this is drinking water too.)
How much does water cost? This much is 2 cedis; a 1.5 litre bottle of drinking water costs 1.2 cedis; a 500ml sachet of drinking water is 5 pesewas (100 pesewas to the cedi, current rate about 2.4 cedis to the £).
