Kinda Horrigans

Sunday 20 February 2011: When I grow up...

359/365: ... I'll still periodically choose images which are nothing to do with my day! However, there was a challenge in the 365 Flickr group I belong to to do a 'Cookie Splash' shot, so... out of my comfort zone I went with my first attempt at this and did it. No, the light isn't great (again!), but this was just me getting a shot out of the way... and it's always good to challenge yourself, huh?

Update: If you're interested how it was done, you just set up your still life, make sure the camera's on manual focus (focus on the cup), manual settings for other stuff (fast shutter speed and fairly wide aperture), put camera on burst mode, hold smallish pebble over cup with one hand, press and hold shutter with the other (no need to look through viewfinder cuz you already focused earlier)... drop the pebble. Splash!

So, today... an early blip. Mainly because we're going to do 'family gardening' this afternoon and that'll be a) chaotic and b) knackering... which means no time for photos later. Been busy already though, mind you. However, started off well because miracle of miracles I managed to sleep until just past 7am - this is unheard of for me! Keep getting waves of relief about not having to go back to work on Monday. Can't describe how good that feels! Anyhoo... also managed to make a batch of marmalade this morning - almost 7 jars and it's set a treat as well as tasting okay. A big yay from me about both of those things because I've only managed watery and bitter before... well, I've also managed to stubbornly leave the vile marmalade until it went mouldy so I think today's efforts count as significant progress!

After that a bit of de-stickifying of the kitchen, messed about with cups and cookies... made a sauce for the pizza I'll knock up later and have got leek and potato soup just about ready to whizz up and scoff for lunch.

The kids are pootling about not doing terribly much. Think they're both kinda tired from school still and revving themselves up to relax over the half term holiday. Why we have to go through the whinge zone and bickering bit, I don't know. But, as long as they don't kill each other, that'll be the benchmark of success.

Lunch beckons! Oh, and Maddy has just informed me 'she's painting her sculpture'. I dread to think what state Nick's studio is in if that's what she's been up to.

*gulp*

Laters taters!

PS Felix and Maddy, rather than helping do the garden, have decided that they want to have a mud fight and roll about in the dirt.
PPS Wish me luck. My sanity feels like the thread it was hanging by has just slipped further...
PPPS I didn't make it clear yesterday, I'm not finishing blipping after I've finished my 365 project... just finishing the project. Blipping has oozed its way into my life, so it'll just find a happy post-365 place to be after next weekend!
