Sunday 20 February 2011: Common Flicker

Common Flicker, although not so common to me! It's the first time I've seen one!

I was about to go make a pot of coffee this morning when I looked out onto the deck and saw someone peeking through the rails. I quickly grabbed my camera while my hubby kept Jack and the dog back at a reasonable distance so not to scare him away.

I at first thought it was maybe a female or juvenile red-bellied woodpecker, but after we looked it up in our Audobon Field Guide, we quickly realized what it was.

So, a new bird is added to my collection!!
