Another Cold Job

Like the guy from the river from a few days ago, this guy has a very cold job. He is a pedestrian 'guardian'.

His job is to stand all day and watch the traffic signals. When the little green (walk) man shows, he blows his whistle and raises his flag to let people know they can cross the road. He points his flag across the street to let them know its safe. When the red (stop) man is there on the lights, he blows his whistle twice and raises his flag again. This time he holds it across the path of the pedestrians to let them know its not safe.

The trouble is.. No one pays any attention to him. He stands there in temps (with wind chill) of about -25 every day in winter, blowing and raising but no one listens or sees.

I always stop.. look at him to let him know he does actually perform a useful function by keeping one of the foregners safe on his beat, smile and wait till he says its OK to cross. He usually give me a wry grin back.. then blows his whistle raises his flag and off I go.
