Saturday 26 February 2011: A very damp Utrecht

Had a lovely lie in today, waking up to a quiet apartment and peacefulness. lay for quite sometime not thinking of much just looking at the ceiling and marvelling at the stillness of everything around me.

eventually managed to prize myself away from the very comfortable and snuggley bed. We all had breakfast and then considered the weather :-( not good. It was raining. So Wendy suggested we could either go to Amsterdam or Utrecht as they are both on the same railway line so I opted for Utrecht having never been there before.

I was a wee bit of an embarrassment at the station as I had to take pictures of trains for Bob and was also a little over excited at the prospect of going on a double decker train! Yes I do need to get out more!

We wandered the damp streets of Utrecht, went in the cathedral (where they were in the process of tuning the organ) found a beautiful war memorial outside, admired the flower stalls and then chucked the towel in and went for some lunch. over lunch the weather got increasingly worse, so we decided we would either try and find a museum or head back slightly earlier than planned.

In the end the museums evaded us and we arrived back at the station. managed to skype home and speak to a very bouncy Bob and Ali:-) Weather in Scotland looked to be considerably better than in Holland.

later on we went to see what the high life of Nijmegan could provide which included a really nice Mexican restaurant with cocktails. Also got given a complimentary postcard which we decided to send back to Simon, how nice of us ;-)
