Postcard from Newcastle-Gateshead, 1.

We spend the morning wandering around the Quayside; so many things to blip. A bridge of course - but which one? There are five to choose from. Then there’s the Sage and the Baltic.

Everywhere we look there are photographs and posters of the local architecture; the Tyne Bridge has been done to death, but it’s still my favourite.

After a bit of retail therapy involving ‘the UK’s biggest guitar shop’, we walk back to our hotel across the High-Level bridge - a double decker Victorian masterpiece that carries trains on the top deck and buses and pedestrians on the lower deck. Just over halfway there are the ubiquitous padlocks which seem to feature as an expression of love on most bridges these days. Through the grid I can make out the Tyne Bridge and below it the Swing Bridge.
