Sunday 14 March 2010: Sparkly
It has been a rough few weeks, and this past week was the roughest of all. My left hand was very painful, making it difficult for me to type. Unfortunately, when my neuropathy gets going, almost any movement seems to amplify the pain. By the end of the day, I feel like a wad of beaten pulp. It took me all week to finish up records from patients I saw on Monday and Wednesday. I got it done, but I had to turn away patients. I hated to do it, but I desperately needed time to rest my hand.
I pretty much spent all of Friday and Saturday planted in my new comfy desk chair with my hand or foot wrapped in a heating pad. It was just what I needed - as little body movement as possible while still remaining a bit functional. I was able to exercise today, for the first time in over a week. It felt good to get the rest of the body moving again, even if I have to nurse my left hand a bit tonight.
Things are looking up, though. My Dr's will be talking with each other next week to come up with a plan to keep my immune system in check without landing me in the hospital. And Verizon gave me an early upgrade to a new phone, which arrived Friday. My blackberry now serves only as my ereader (which was really its best function anyway) and alarm clock. I now have a Droid Eris that will hopefully NOT die every few months as the blackberries did. And it has a cheaper monthly fee than the blackberry, since I don't have to pay for tethering with PdaNet.
Today, I saw our first flowers outside and the outdoors is filled with sound of birds. Spring is almost here.

I was just going through your journal, back to the Philly trip because my Jen radar was going beep beep, where is she? A flare-up...that makes me sad. However, you sound hopeful and the fact that the winter has been beaten back must help on a psychological level. New equipment sounds like just the ticket to inprove functionality. I have fingers and toes crossed that the plan works, whatever they come up with.
This is really beautiful, I always marvel at the sparkle on orchids.

hooray for spring! a very sparkly, optimistic image. i'm so sorry to hear of your pain and discomfort. i hope the dr.s come up with a promising strategy. will be keeping my fingers crossed. (thanks for your kind thoughts. our house is still high and dry and my husband got home safe and sound and is off to his "day job" this morning. have you been getting tons of rain, too?)

This is a truly lovely picture. I am sorry your flare up is keeping you from patients and from just enjoying life. I hope the docs come up with something really helpful.
