Thursday 29 July 2010: Priest, Würzburg Dom
Today in Würzburg, rain and rehearsals kept us in the house all morning. Later on the rain cleared and we wandered into town. Our wanderings took us into this beautiful church where we heard the most haunting bells that lasted up to a quarter of an hour and which were quite mesmeric. After visiting the crypt we emerged to see the golden glow of candles on the other side of the church and we sat down for a moment's quiet thought.
I guess it's probably bad manners to take photographs in a church, especially when the person being photographed is the priest and his back is turned, but I couldn't resist the beauty of this quiet moment and the strong lines of the iron candleholders against the bent back of the priest at work weeding out those candles that had been extinguished.
I hope I've managed to share and to capture something of the quiet beauty of the place. I feel like this church will stay with me for a good while.

It looks wonderfully atmospheric and that iron running across the middle of the image is so sculptural. Great shot! Now off to confession with you! ;-)
