Morning

Every morning, out here on Quadra Island, when I wake up (far too early, I might add) I lift my head every so slightly off my pillow and am confronted by this view! Well, sometimes it is clear, sometimes it is colourful, sometimes, like today, it is just like this. Always, it takes my breath away. I wonder, if I were to live here, would I ever get used to this? Would I become indifferent to this? Callous? Casual?

This morning, like just about every other morning I was awake first at about 4am (which because of time zone issues is really like about 7am to my body's clock). Today, I just put my head back down after drinking in this view and went back to my dreams. I woke again nearly two hours later. This time I decided to reach for my camera and I made this photograph.

Each time I look at this view, especially first thing in the morning, I think of my friend who is travelling and try to imagine what she is doing. I try to get close to her by thinking of her and sharing these images with her. I cannot actually share them with her just yet. But by bringing her close to me in my mind and in my heart, I know she can feel what it is that I am sharing. One day, we will share even more closely.
