Wednesday 7 November 2007: scratched and pinning

what: altering photocopy exercise no. 2 - pastel transfer on black construction paper (a) & pastel and pencil on photocopy (b)
mood:

The mood captured by the altered photocopy (b) is not as dark as the original - it is still dark, but has a more worn-down feel, mostly due to the repeated markings of pencil on heavy toner areas. The result is that the black is replaced with carbon silver, and in particular areas of extreme pencil scratching, ripped-up white from the paper is distinctly exposed. There's a rustic, more down-to-earth vibe to the image now.

The scratches left by the pencil marks conveys the sense of sharp prickliness of the pins. Upon viewing image (b), one might get a better impression that these push pins and tacks were absent-mindedly left behind, versus the original photocopy.
