Meanwhile, at the coast..

Thursday 2 September 2010: Through my garden gate.....

.....a gate that I now know was probably made by The Falkirk Iron Factory ('listed as Falkirk No 275B in 1890 catalogue, but standard is elsewhere associated with David King & Sons railings') thanks to Meles post yesterday. I also found out we share the same railing design as King Harald St in Lerwick.......the things you learn on blip huh?

PS....Yes I know it needs a coat of paint!

  1. That's a very handsome gate. Does it make a noise when it opens or does it still have a smooth action?

    ~ MrSmith

  2. A very beautiful gate it is too.
I like how gates and doors have always attracted artists, that movable barrier between different spheres and all that.

    ~ Blob

  3. Gorgeous - so lucky it survived the wartime cull. I've got lots of little bits of sawn off railing along my walls. Sad to think that most of it ended up being dumped too....

    ~ Xtine

  4. Don't paint it! I love the textures and 'oldness' of it!

    ~ horrigans

  5. What a beautiful gate, and it looks like you're inviting us in... Black coffee, no sugar for me thanks. :-)

    ~ Annie

    ~ Scorpionkiss

  7. I love it - thats just my kind of thing.

    ~ craftynini

  8. Does it need paint? Yes, I see that it does in places. Best hop to it because rust can get a grip. It's a fabulous gate but then it was, apparently, made in Scotland. :-) I'm glad it survived the war. It's a terrific picture of it and what a treasure it is.

    ~ Amalari

  20. Nice gate, lots of details. I see you have hit the Top Spot for voting on Unstaged tonight. Good for you. I have just started clicking too. Some fantastic entries.

    ~ Gillipaw

  21. Facinating! That you know just what it is now, who else has one, and all the rest. It wouldn't be a rusted heap here, thanks to all the salting of roads that happens in a Canadian winter. (nice work -- you'll be No 1 Nominator next time I look, I just know it!)

    ~ besideherself

  22. King Harald St in Lerwick, eh? Quite amazing.

(And surely there was an iron foundry closer to hand than Falkirk....)

    ~ meles

  23. Great photo of an awesome gate :)

    ~ ColinParte

  24. A beautiful creaking gate.

    ~ Enya
