The Figo House

From time to time I like to blip old homes that have survived the modern development that has mushroomed around them, the homes have generally since become businesses rather than remaining a family home. This afternoon I was downtown near The Figo House which I think is one of the most dramatic examples of this. The old home had been purchased and turned into law offices and was in a clutch of old homes that were clinging on in this very urban spot, then TriMet and Portland State University began to encroach and Trimet began to successfully demolish the surrounding homes... However, the lawyer and owner of The Figo House wouldn't give in and so we have the lovely house remaining and the towering blocks of the PSU buildings (dormitories) and a busy Trimet transit mall completely surrounding it. The law offices have a great page on their site documenting their fight to keep the house, some photographs of the demolition of the neighboring homes as well as the construction and completed site.

A busy day and got quite a bit accomplished. Also met with a couple of contractors to try and get the basement repair underway, some discussions and measuring happened and plans made to meet again.
