Wednesday 26 November 2008: the plant that cannot die
This is a resurrection plant. It is a desert plant that belongs to the moss family. It has adapted to living in very dry regions by contracting into a very dry ball, which is carried along by the wind until it settles in water. It will then unfold its fernlike fronds and renew itself as if resurrected from the dead. This process is repeated until the plant finds a permanent damp place to set down its roots.
This has been opened fully, in a bowl of water -beacame slightly mouldy in the warm environment, and then I removed it from water - this is the result. It is drying and rolling up again.
I am well renowned for not having green fingers, so at last a plant I cannot kill through neglect
