My name is Ron Buist. I live in a village called Ten Boer in the northern part of the The Netherlands. I married Martine in 2001 and we now have three daughters: Nienke (born May 2004), Inge (born August 2006) and Ellis (born September 2008).

When I started this journal in October 2009, I wrote that if anything, it is about the progress compact digital cameras have made. I didn't know anything about photography. I always used the automatic settings of my Kodak DX 7590.

Since then, things have changed somewhat. I got myself a Canon EOS 500d and used the past year (2010) to learn more about photography. I have found out I really like landscape photography and I took a landscape photography course to further improve my skills. This would never have happened if it weren't for blipfoto! I can honestly say that because of blipfoto, the way I take pictures has changed and it's making me see the world in a different way.

Even though my main goal for 2010 was to improve my photography skills and posting a blip every day so I would be forced to pick up the camera, I also discovered the social aspect of blipfoto. It's great fun looking at other people's images and reading about their lives and I really enjoy doing that. However, it does take a considerable amount of time. And I also have my family life and work (in that order!) so time is something that's not available in huge quantities.

For 2011 my ambitions have changed somewhat. I will still be around on blipfoto, but I'm not feeling a need to upload an image every day. I will also have to cut down the time I spend commenting. Not because I don't like it, but because I would rather use the time available to find great locations and prepare for landscape photography shoots. I have changed the name of my journal from "Ron's Blips" to "Dutch Skies" as I think this fits better with my current ambitions. And it's a cooler name too :-)
