Saturday 27 September 2008 : Sizzle
So what can you do to cheer yourself up after your dad dies? Grill steaks of course. It's been about 2 years since I've set foot on the the Dogwood Puddle Estate. It was a great opportunity to get together albeit under shitty circumstances. Sprouting cousins shared stories of adolescent interests. There was piano playing. The adults drank too much wine. Spirited political discourse peppered the day (making some of us wonder if we were adopted rather than sharing genes). Photo albums were dusted off. The healing process marches on.

That is what is required.
My father-in-law said that we were to raise a glass to him after his death ......... then drink his bar dry and have a damned good party.
We had the party but couldn't drink the bar dry - even with the extended family and half the town there ............ man could he hoard booze.
Great looking steaks by the way

It's good to wrest some joy out of sad times: glad you were able to enjoy being together (political differences aside!)

Mom is still around but misses him like crazy, all I can say to you is that it does get easier as time goes on, but you will still have times when a smile will come on your face as a memory filters past of times gone by.
On another note, I miss your journal and Chaos.
