Friday 8 December 2006: Nike Air Jordan 5

This is probably my most treasured trainer out of all of my collection.

When they were first released I was only 12 years old and at the time they were out of my mums price bracket. It has taken me years to track down the originals and finally two years ago I manged to get my hands on a pair of 'limited edition 23' deadstock from Japan!

The Air Jordan V design was inspired by the 'Grey Nurse Shark' paint job on the World War II British fighter plane, Supermarine Spitfire MKVIII. Michael Jordan would hang around the outer and swoop in from nowhere to attack. The planes would have nose-art with flames or shark teeth painted on them which formed the basis of the "reverse flames" design on the shoe's midsole.

The Air Jordan series was also the first Nike trainer not to have the Nike swoosh on the side, apart from Jordan 1, but this is because they never expected the trainer to be so successful when it was launched!!

In my opinion Nike Air Jordan Vs are a design classic of the trainer world!
