Channel 4 is a public service broadcaster with a reputation for innovative and edgy programming - a vision recently described by head of Channel 4 Julian Bellamy as 'the art of intelligent provocation'.
The core channel was founded in 1982 to provide a fourth television service to the UK, and in the digital age has expanded to include youth-oriented digital channel E4, its 'grown up' counterpart More4 and film channel Film4. Channel 4 has also pioneered digital media and cross-platform programming, having recognised early on the future direction of media.
Channel 4 is built around four key values: to inspire positive change in people's lives, to champion alternative voices and fresh perspectives, to challenge people to see the world differently and to nurture new talent and original ideas.
